Ok, found a piece of property that I would really like to purchase, or acquire. Judging by the looks of the house that is on this property, it is not inhabitable and I believe even abandoned. The house has the door off,and curiosity made me go inside. It is now 2006 and I found newspapers dated 1987 and a pre-70s phone was there as well. How can I get this property? Or find out its status other then contacting a real estate agent. Is there a web site for a tax assessor? What is a good source to find Abandoned Property?

I found a similar property, I went to the city. They told me they couldn’t help. I tried to contact the county and was told, I needed the legal description. I finally called a local Realtor, they said they couldn’t help either. Stymied, I waited a month, only to find out the Realtors son bought the property two weeks earlier. So you are smarter than I was. I now know you can take the street address to the county assessor and they can tell you who last paid taxes on it, Good luck
