Once you have found your Unclaimed Property, this final segment discusses how state Unclaimed Property websites usually have either directions or claim forms with specific information to complete. Using California Unclaimed Property as an example, once the claim form is complete, additional documentation is required like a copy of identification (drivers license, passport, state ID) AND proof of your social security number (social security card, tax return, pay stub). Your claim form may need to be notarized if greater than $1,000, a security (like stocks or bonds) or if it represents contents of a Safe Deposit Box. Other specific documentation is necessary for special circumstances. Finally, Californias Unclaimed Property website states, “DUE TO THE LARGE VOLUME OF CLAIMS WE RECEIVE AND PROCESS, IT MAY TAKE UP TO 180 DAYS TO PROCESS YOUR CLAIM” – good luck!
